Intro

Chrome on Windows uses Ctrl as its primary modifier. If you're coming from Mac, every Command combination in Chrome becomes a Ctrl combination on Windows, the actions are identical, only the key changes.

Windows also adds F-key shortcuts that don't need a function modifier. F5 reloads the page, F12 opens DevTools, F6 focuses the address bar. These work without holding Fn because on Windows keyboards, F-keys default to their function key behavior rather than media controls.

Windows-specific shortcut notes

F-key shortcuts. On Windows, F5, F6, and F12 are directly useful in Chrome without any modifier. F5 is a quick reload that many Windows users have used for years across browsers. F12 is the fastest way to open DevTools on Windows, equivalent to the longer shortcut combination that Mac uses.

Ctrl as primary modifier. The full tab management, navigation, bookmarks, and DevTools shortcut set uses Ctrl in place of Mac's Command. Ctrl+T for new tab, Ctrl+W for close, Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen, Ctrl+L for address bar, the pattern is consistent throughout.

DevTools on Windows. Chrome's developer tools are fully available with F12 or the Ctrl-based shortcut for opening the panel. The full DevTools shortcut set, panel navigation, console, network monitoring, source inspection, is covered in the table above.

Clearing browsing data. Ctrl+Shift+Delete opens Chrome's "Clear browsing data" dialog directly on Windows, a shortcut worth knowing if you use it regularly.
