Intro

Chrome on macOS uses Command (⌘) as its primary modifier, the same key used across most Mac applications. If you're familiar with other Mac apps, the core patterns carry over: Command+T, Command+W, Command+Z, Command+L all behave consistently with what you'd expect.

The main area where Chrome on Mac has its own shortcut logic is DevTools. Opening panels, switching between them, and navigating within the developer tools each have specific keyboard combinations. These are covered in full in the table above.

Mac-specific shortcut notes

F-key behavior on Mac. By default, macOS maps F-keys to system functions (brightness, volume, Mission Control). To use bare F-key shortcuts in Chrome, if any exist, you press Fn+F-key unless you've changed the F-key behavior in System Settings under Keyboard. Most Chrome-on-Mac shortcuts use Command combinations instead of bare F-keys for this reason.

Modifier keys on Mac. Chrome on macOS uses three modifier keys in various combinations: Command (⌘), Option (⌥), and Control (⌃). Command is the most common. Option appears in a few combinations, notably for DevTools. Control appears for context menus and a small number of tab operations.

DevTools on Mac. Chrome's developer tools have their own shortcut panel once open. Switching between the Elements, Console, Network, Sources, and Performance tabs, as well as opening and closing the DevTools pane itself, all have keyboard shortcuts. These are the shortcuts most likely to benefit regular development work in Chrome on Mac.
