Airtable Keyboard Shortcuts

Airtable looks like a spreadsheet, so most shortcuts are grid shortcuts: moving between cells, copying ranges, inserting records. The rest move you around a base fast, switching tables, views, and bases from the keyboard and expanding a record without the mouse. HKeys covers Airtable on Mac, Windows, and the web.

Mac Command as the modifier. Copy, cut, and paste cells with Cmd+C, Cmd+X, and Cmd+V. Cmd plus an arrow key jumps to the edge of the table.

Windows Ctrl as the modifier. The grid and record shortcuts match the Mac set with Ctrl in place of Command.

Web Runs in the browser on any OS. The modifier follows your system, Command on Mac and Ctrl on Windows, and a few combinations are claimed by the browser instead of Airtable.

What Airtable shortcuts cover

Grid navigation. Move between cells with the arrow keys. Cmd or Ctrl plus an arrow jumps to the edge of the table. Add Shift to select a range as you go.

Records. Space expands the active record. Shift+Enter inserts a record below the current cell. Hold Option or Alt and drag to duplicate a record or field.

Views. Switch tables, views, and bases without the mouse: Cmd/Ctrl+J for the table switcher, Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+K for the view switcher, and Cmd/Ctrl+K for the base switcher.

Find, filter, sort, group. Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+F opens the filter menu, Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+S the sort menu, and Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+D the grouped records menu. Cmd/Ctrl+F opens the find bar.

Expanded record. With a record open, Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Comma and Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Period move to the previous or next record. Esc closes it.

FAQ

Are Airtable shortcuts the same as spreadsheet shortcuts?

Many of them are. Copy, cut, paste, undo, and range selection use the same keys as Excel or Google Sheets. The shortcuts specific to Airtable are the ones for switching views and bases, expanding a record, and opening the filter, sort, and group menus.

Do Airtable shortcuts work in the browser?

Yes. Airtable runs in the browser, and the shortcuts work there with the modifier that matches your operating system, Command on Mac and Ctrl on Windows. A few combinations, like the ones that open or close browser tabs, are handled by the browser rather than Airtable.

How do I move to the next record without the mouse?

Open a record, then press Cmd+Shift+Period on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+Period on Windows to move to the next record, and the Comma version to move to the previous one. Esc closes the expanded record.

Can I jump to the edge of a large table?

Yes. Hold Cmd on Mac or Ctrl on Windows and press an arrow key to jump to the edge of the table in that direction. Add Shift to select every cell along the way.
