Windows and Mac The full shortcut set: quick task creation, the Tab-prefixed task actions, inbox navigation, selection, and desktop app window management. Windows uses Ctrl, Mac mostly uses Cmd, with tab-switching and follow-up tasks bound differently on each.

The Tab prefix. Asana's signature pattern: hold Tab and press a letter for task actions without leaving the keyboard.

• Tab+A: Assign the selected task
• Tab+C: Comment on the selected task

Task creation and completion. Return creates a new task, and Ctrl+Return / Cmd+Return marks the selected task complete.

Navigation. Tab+Z jumps to My Tasks, Tab+I to the Inbox, and Tab+Slash searches for a project, tag, person, or task.

Desktop app. The Asana desktop app adds standard window shortcuts: new window, new tab, and switching between tabs.

Why does Asana use Tab as a shortcut prefix?

Asana binds most task-level actions to Tab held with a letter (Tab+D, Tab+C, Tab+T, and more) instead of Ctrl or Cmd combinations. It's Asana's own convention, consistent across Windows and Mac, and it overrides the browser's default use of Tab for focus navigation.

What's the fastest way to create a task in Asana?

Tab+Q opens quick add from anywhere in Asana, letting you type a task name without navigating to a specific project first. Plain Return also creates a new task when you're already inside a task list.

Are Asana's keyboard shortcuts the same on Windows and Mac?
