Adobe Audition Keyboard Shortcuts

Audition's shortcuts split into three groups: transport and zoom keys, Waveform-Editor-only editing shortcuts, and multitrack mixing keys for knobs, mute/solo, and clip nudging. Windows uses Ctrl and Alt; Mac uses Command and Option, key for key. HKeys covers Audition on Mac and Windows.

Mac Command and Option as the modifiers. Zoom, marker, and nudge shortcuts use Option where Windows uses Alt.

Windows Ctrl and Alt as the modifiers. The same transport, zoom, and mixing shortcuts as Mac, with Ctrl standing in for Command.

What Audition shortcuts cover

Transport and zoom. Spacebar starts and stops playback. Home and End jump the current-time indicator to the start or end of the timeline. Equal and Minus zoom horizontally; add Alt (Option on Mac) to zoom vertically instead.

Markers. M adds a marker at the current-time indicator. Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right Arrow (Cmd+Option+Left/Right Arrow on Mac) jumps between existing markers.

Waveform Editor only. Shift+R repeats the last command's dialog box with its current settings applied; Ctrl+R (Cmd+R on Mac) reopens the dialog box without applying it. Up and Down Arrow activate the left and right channel of a stereo file for editing.

Multitrack mixing. Shift-drag adjusts a knob in large increments, Ctrl-drag (Cmd-drag on Mac) in small increments. Alt+comma and Alt+period (Option+comma/period on Mac) nudge the selected clip left and right.

A printable PDF of Audition shortcuts is available for each platform. The transport, zoom, and marker shortcuts are the ones most people reach for first when editing audio.

FAQ

Does Adobe Audition use different modifier keys on Mac and Windows?

Yes. Mac uses Command and Option, Windows uses Ctrl and Alt, for the same actions. The key itself (letter, arrow, or symbol) stays the same; only the modifier changes.

Do Audition's editing shortcuts work in the Multitrack Editor too?

Not all of them. Adobe documents the "Repeat the previous command," sample-type, noise-reduction-profile, and channel-activation shortcuts as Waveform Editor only. Multitrack sessions have their own separate set of mixing shortcuts (knob adjustment, mute/solo/arm toggling, clip nudging).

How do I add a marker while editing in Audition?

Press M, or the asterisk key Adobe lists alongside it, at the current-time indicator. Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right Arrow (Cmd+Option+Left/Right Arrow on Mac) then jumps between the markers you have placed.

Is this the complete list of Audition's default shortcuts?

No. Adobe's own shortcuts page describes these as the shortcuts its team finds most useful, not an exhaustive list; the full set is visible inside Audition itself under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
