Intro

PowerPoint on macOS uses Command (⌘) as its primary modifier for edit-mode shortcuts. Presentation delivery shortcuts, the ones you use while running the show, are mostly single keys (B, W, arrow keys, Escape) that work regardless of modifier. The main Mac-specific adjustment is in how you start the slideshow itself.

Mac-specific shortcut notes

Starting a slideshow on Mac. The F5 shortcut to start a presentation from the beginning requires Fn+F5 by default on Mac, because macOS maps F-keys to system functions. Shift+Fn+F5 starts from the current slide. If you present regularly on a Mac and want to use F5 without Fn, change the F-key behavior in System Settings → Keyboard. Once the slideshow is running, the delivery shortcuts work without any modifier and are identical to Windows.

Command as edit-mode modifier. Formatting shortcuts, slide duplication, object selection and grouping, and navigation between slides all use Command, following the standard Mac pattern.

Presentation delivery shortcuts. Once a slideshow starts, these single-key shortcuts apply regardless of platform:

  • B: Black screen (toggle). Press again to return to the slide.
  • W: White screen (toggle). Press again to return.
  • Escape: End the slideshow.
  • Arrow keys / Space / Enter: Advance to the next slide or animation step.
  • Backspace / Left Arrow / P: Go to the previous slide.
  • A number followed by Enter: Jump directly to that slide number.
