Pages on iPad is a capable writing and document environment with strong external keyboard support. Word processing documents, the most common use case, work well with a keyboard for text formatting, paragraph styles, and document navigation. iPad provides more keyboard shortcut coverage than iPhone, reflecting its use as a primary writing device for many users.

iPad-specific shortcut notes

External keyboard required. Pages keyboard shortcuts on iPad activate with a physical keyboard connected.

Command modifier. Pages on iPad uses Command (⌘), following iPadOS keyboard conventions.

Text formatting. Cmd+B, Cmd+I, Cmd+U, and other standard formatting shortcuts are fully supported with an external keyboard.

Paragraph styles. Applying named paragraph styles by keyboard is supported on iPad, keeping document structure consistent without switching to the format panel.

Document navigation. Moving by word and paragraph, jumping to the start or end of the document, and navigating within long documents are keyboard-accessible.
