Slack on Mac uses Command (⌘) as its primary modifier. The quick switcher, Cmd+K, is the shortcut that changes how most people navigate Slack. Type a channel name, person, or workspace and jump there directly rather than scrolling the sidebar.
Quick switcher. Cmd+K opens the quick switcher from anywhere in Slack. Start typing the name of any channel, DM, or workspace to jump to it. This works across workspaces, it's the fastest way to navigate Slack regardless of how many channels or teams you're in.
Channel and DM navigation. Cmd+Shift+K opens the DM search directly. Cmd+[ and Cmd+] navigate backward and forward through your recent channel history, useful when you've jumped around and want to return to the previous conversation.
Message composition. Pressing Shift+Enter creates a new line in a message without sending it. Up Arrow in the compose field loads your most recently sent message for editing.
Unread navigation. Slack has shortcuts for jumping to the next unread channel or DM, keeping up with activity without manually clicking through the sidebar.
Search. Cmd+F opens the Slack search field. From there you can search across messages, files, and channels.
Reactions. The shortcut for adding an emoji reaction to a message is covered in the table above, adding reactions by keyboard keeps the interaction fast without switching to the mouse.
Workspace switching. If you're in multiple Slack workspaces, Cmd+number keys switch between them directly.
The Slack macOS shortcut list is available as a printable PDF. The navigation and quick switcher sections are the most useful for anyone who spends significant time in Slack.
Cmd+K opens the quick switcher, a search field that jumps to any channel, DM, or workspace. It works from anywhere in Slack and is the fastest way to navigate between conversations without touching the mouse.
Cmd+[ (left bracket) goes back in your navigation history; Cmd+] (right bracket) goes forward. These work like browser back and forward buttons but for Slack channel history.
