Intro

Slack on Linux uses Ctrl as its primary modifier, the same shortcut set as Windows. Slack provides a native Linux desktop app, making it a first-class platform for the developers and technical teams that use Linux as their primary environment.

If you've used Slack on Windows, every shortcut transfers directly to Linux.

Linux-specific shortcut notes

Ctrl as primary modifier. The full Slack shortcut set on Linux uses Ctrl throughout. Channel navigation, quick switcher, message composition, search, and workspace switching all follow this pattern.

Quick switcher. Ctrl+K opens the quick switcher, jump to any channel, DM, or workspace by name. This works the same as on Windows.

Desktop environment conflicts. As with other Linux applications, a small number of Ctrl combinations may be captured by GNOME, KDE, or another desktop environment before Slack receives them. Ctrl+K and most Slack shortcuts are unlikely to conflict, but if something doesn't respond, check your DE's global keyboard settings.

Message editing and navigation. Up Arrow in the compose field edits the most recent message. Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] navigate back and forward through channel history.

Workspace switching. Ctrl+number keys switch between Slack workspaces directly.

The Slack Linux shortcut list is available as a printable PDF. The shortcut set is identical to Windows, if you already know Slack shortcuts on Windows, no new reference is needed for Linux.
