Edge is the default browser on Windows 11, and its shortcut set reflects the depth of its Windows integration. The core browsing shortcuts follow the Chromium pattern, Ctrl for tab management, navigation, and DevTools. The Edge-specific shortcuts cover features that don't exist in Chrome: Collections, the Copilot sidebar, Immersive Reader, vertical tabs, and web capture.
Ctrl as primary modifier. Tab management, address bar, history, bookmarks, and DevTools all use Ctrl. This matches Chrome on Windows, so if you're switching from Chrome to Edge, the core shortcut set is familiar.
F-key shortcuts. F-keys work without Fn on Windows. F12 opens DevTools directly. F5 reloads the page. Alt+D or F6 focuses the address bar, both work in Edge on Windows.
Edge-specific features on Windows. Collections (saving and organizing web content), the Copilot and sidebar panel, Immersive Reader, vertical tabs, and web capture each have dedicated shortcuts on Windows. These are the areas where Edge's shortcut reference differs from Chrome's.
Windows 11 integration. A small number of Edge shortcuts interact with Windows 11 system features. These are covered in the table above where applicable.
DevTools. F12 or the Ctrl-based shortcut opens DevTools. Edge DevTools are built on the same infrastructure as Chrome DevTools, so the panel navigation and in-DevTools shortcut set is familiar to anyone who has used Chrome's tools.
The Edge Windows shortcut list is available as a printable PDF. The Edge-specific feature shortcuts, Collections, sidebar, Immersive Reader, are the ones most worth printing, since they have no direct Chrome equivalent to fall back on from memory.
Mostly equivalent, but Edge integrates more tightly with Windows 11 at the system level. A few shortcuts that interact with Windows 11 features are Windows-only by definition. The core Edge feature set, Collections, sidebar, Immersive Reader, has full shortcut support on both platforms.
Yes. F12 opens and closes Edge DevTools directly on Windows. Ctrl+Shift+I is an alternative that also works and follows the standard cross-browser DevTools shortcut pattern.
Yes. Vertical tabs, Edge's alternative tab layout that positions tabs on the left side of the window, can be opened, closed, and navigated with keyboard shortcuts. These are included in the table above.
