Intro

IntelliJ IDEA on Mac follows macOS's own conventions rather than a direct Windows swap: tool windows are Cmd+1 through 9, and line-start/line-end navigation uses Cmd+Left/Right instead of Home/End.

Mac-specific shortcut notes

Search Everywhere. Double-tap Shift from anywhere to search files, actions, symbols, and settings in one box.

Tool windows follow Mac numbering. Cmd+1 opens Project, Cmd+9 opens Version Control, matching how macOS apps typically number their panels, rather than Windows' Alt+1-9.

Word and line navigation uses Option and Cmd, not Ctrl. Option+Left/Right moves by word, Cmd+Left/Right moves to the start or end of the line, the standard macOS text-editing pattern.

Refactor This. Ctrl+T opens a menu of every refactoring available at the caret, rename, extract, move, safe delete, and more.
