Intro

Blender on Windows has the most straightforward keyboard setup of the two platforms: physical numpad keys work for viewport navigation by default, and Ctrl is used where Mac uses Command. The full shortcut set, G/R/S modal transforms, numpad views, and Edit mode mesh operations, works as documented in Blender's official reference.

Windows-specific shortcut notes

G, R, S with axis constraints. The modal transform system: G to grab, R to rotate, S to scale. After pressing the key, optionally press X, Y, or Z to constrain to that axis. Type a number for exact values. Click or Enter to confirm; right-click or Escape to cancel.

Numpad viewport navigation. Standard numpad keys work without any configuration on Windows:

  • Numpad 1: Front view
  • Numpad 3: Right side view
  • Numpad 7: Top view
  • Numpad 5: Toggle perspective/orthographic view
  • Numpad 0: Camera view
  • Numpad .: Focus on selected object(s)
  • Numpad 4/6/8/2: Orbit left/right/up/down
  • Numpad +/-: Zoom in/out

Edit mode. Tab toggles between Object and Edit mode. In Edit mode:

  • 1/2/3 (number row): Switch between vertex, edge, and face select modes
  • E: Extrude
  • I: Inset faces
  • Ctrl+R: Loop cut

Shift+A. Opens the add menu to insert new objects, meshes, lights, cameras, and other scene elements.

Ctrl as modifier. Ctrl+Z undoes. Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes. Other Ctrl-based shortcuts for operations like proportional editing scale settings are covered in the table.

F12. Start a full render. F11 opens the last render result.
