Intro
Avid Media Composer on Mac uses Cmd as its primary modifier, though Option (not Cmd) pairs with several Alt-click editing functions, and a few timeline and bin shortcuts use the literal Control key instead of Cmd.

These shortcuts apply while the Recorder is in Capture mode, which remaps the keyboard's function keys.

J-K-L playback. L plays forward, J plays in reverse, and K pauses. Repeated presses of J or L increase the shuttle speed; holding K while tapping J or L steps one frame at a time.
Option+click editing functions. Lift, Extract, Add Edit, Match Frame, and Find Bin are triggered by holding Option and clicking their toolbar button, not by a plain key combination.
Control, not Cmd. A handful of shortcuts genuinely use the literal Control key rather than Cmd: moving segments between tracks in the Timeline, and lassoing segments or transitions inside the timeline tracks.
Tool windows. Cmd+0 through Cmd+9 open the Timeline, Audio tool, Calculator, Command Palette, Composer window, and other core tool windows directly.
The Avid Media Composer Mac shortcut list is available as a printable PDF. The J-K-L playback keys and the Mark In/Mark Out keys are the most useful for everyday editing.
They shuttle through footage at variable speed. L plays forward, J plays in reverse, and K pauses. Pressing L or J repeatedly increases the shuttle speed.
They aren't plain key combinations. Hold Option and click the Lift button or the Extract button in the Command Palette to move the marked material into the Source window.
A handful of timeline commands, like moving segments between tracks or lassoing inside the timeline tracks, are bound to the literal Control key rather than Cmd. This is how Avid documents them; there is no Cmd equivalent for these specific shortcuts.
