Intro

Maya's default hotkeys lean on single letters rather than modifier chords. Q, W, E, and R switch between the Select, Move, Rotate, and Scale tools with one keypress, and most other bindings stay the same whether you are modeling, rigging, or animating.

Windows-specific shortcut notes

Single-key tool switching. Q (Select), W (Move), E (Rotate), and R (Scale) work with no modifier, so you can jump between tools without moving off the keyboard.

Marking menus. Several letters (S, U, O, H) open a marking menu instead of a single action; which item fires depends on which mouse button you hold down while the key is pressed.

Ctrl is Maya's main modifier. Undo, Redo, Group, and most File menu commands use Ctrl. The Windows key itself is not used by Maya's default hotkeys.

Printable PDF

A printable PDF of Maya's Windows shortcuts is available below. The tool-switching keys (Q/W/E/R) and the animation keying shortcuts are the ones worth keeping within reach at your desk.
