Intro

After Effects on Mac uses Command as its primary modifier throughout, with Option for secondary variants. A handful of shortcuts use Control instead, mostly numeric-keypad alternates and a few Opacity/Scale nudges.

Mac-specific shortcut notes

Non-numpad alternates. Several numeric-keypad shortcuts (audio-only preview, alternate preview, marker placement) have an extra Control-based alternate on Mac for keyboards without a numeric keypad, something Windows doesn't offer since it doesn't need to.

A few Opacity and Scale shortcuts use Control, not Command. Increasing or decreasing Opacity by 1% or 10% on the numeric keypad uses Control+Option rather than the usual Command+Option pairing. Scale shortcuts, by contrast, do use Command as expected.

Option+W is a shared toggle. Option+W activates and cycles between the Roto Brush and Refine Edge tools, the same chord for both, matching Adobe's own reference.

Printable PDF

The After Effects Mac shortcut list is available as a printable PDF. Given its size, the property-revealing single letters (P, R, S, T, A) and the keyframe-easing shortcuts (F9, Shift+F9) are worth learning first.
